Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing Barbie to life with its upcoming film. Directed by Greta Gerwig.
Starring Margot Robbie as the iconic Barbie herself, Robbie announced her roll as Barbie in January 2019, saying in a press release "Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child's journey to self-discovery".
Speaking on "self-discovery" Barbie Manufacturer - Mattel launched a line of dolls back in 2020 called Barbie Fashionistas. Working alongside dermatologists Mattel launched a bald Barbie Doll #150 to ensure the dolls were accurately represented for the creators to showcase "a multi-dimensional view of beauty" and "represent global diversity and inclusivity." Mattel said the beautiful bald Barbie will resonate with any child experiencing hair loss for any reason and that they will be able to see themselves "reflected in the line".

Mattel said that it aims to “redefine what it means to be a Barbie or look like Barbie” with the launch of its new doll with vitiligo, adding that it will allow children to “play out even more stories they see in the world around them”.
This inclusive campaign has undoubtedly flourished since the launch because of the awareness and advocacy it brings within the hair loss community! Many courageous content creators with hair loss conditions have shared their love for the bald Barbie showcasing how important it is for our younger generation, especially those with hair loss conditions!
Margot Robbie, who is set to play the famous plastic doll in this live action tale told British Vogue "People generally hear 'Barbie' and think, 'I know what that movie is going to be,' and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they're like, 'Oh, well, maybe I don't... All we can say is whatever you're thinking, it's not that," Robbie teased.
In conclusion, does this mean the Barbie movie will showcase inclusivity and diversity like the Fashionista collection? As much as we all love Barbies beauty and her gorgeous iconic blonde hair, will we ever see a bald Barbie hit the big screens?
